The works of artist, Diane Lenay Garrett Black, demonstrate skillful use of layering acrylic colors, which captures the inner reflection of her subjects. Her "very American" portrayal of people, still life's and landscapes utilize a primitive style to illuminate the dramatic design of her work. In 2008, she embarked on an adventure using oil pastels to journal events which create compelling computer enhanced images of animals, insects, people, places and common activities.
Raised on farms in both Imperial Valley, California, and Treasure Valley, Idaho, Ms. Black considers herself a "Rocky-Mountain, West Coast girl" who has also embraced the French country side with an enthusiastic eye. Her colorful career as a project gypsy has woven its way through the farm lands, bank institutions, food canneries, oil refineries, nuclear facilities, emergency disasters and the construction of schools facilities. First as a student and then as a professional artist, Ms. Black incorporates her love of adventure into her paintings. The youngest of a family of three older brothers she learned at an early age to approach life with tenacity. She is an independent thinker, blessed with a charismatic personality, and when these characteristics are integrated on the surface of a canvas they become a powerful statement.
